White Escargot Snail Caviar

SKU: SN25 ISBN: 713336005457
Regular price $70.00

A rare and beautiful "caviar" – Pearls of the earth! Snail caviar is the roe of the Petit Gris snail, cured with low salt just like traditional caviar. These snails only lay 50-100 eggs a year, making our snail caviar a truly extraordinary treat. The eggs are bright white and approximately 4 mm in diameter (similar in size to trout roe or smaller salmon roe). Because this caviar comes from land snails, the flavor is earthy and woodsy, with notes of carrot, herbs, mushrooms, and forest floor. This makes it a unique accompaniment to meat and vegetable dishes or simply delightful on its own.

This snail caviar is produced by Peconic Escargot, one of the few snail farms in the United States, located in a sunny greenhouse on the North Fork of Long Island, NY.

Refrigeration is recommended. Limit extended storage at temperatures above 50°F. For the best quality, consume within 2 weeks of opening.

Great Service, Not Likely to Reorder

Can't complain about ordering and the service provided. I wanted to try out the product (Snail Caviar). Quite expensive, but I understand the product cost and shipping expenses. Snail caviar just was to to blah. Great texture, not much flavor or pop. It was worth trying!

Best Caviar Ever!

I was a little hesitant about this product as I like Ossetra. Beluga is a little "greasy" for me and the beads are a little larger.

I had a small gathering of 8 friends and we opened the Escargot Caviar, put it on sour cream and home made toast points. It was very delicate. The Sour cream almost overwhelmed it's flavor, I will use Creme Fraiche. We washed it down with Vue Clique and found it to be a "soft" flavor and gentle on the taste buds. I would definitely buy it again. It arrived quicker than I thought. I also liked the thought that it is farmed and sustainable. Good job!

Musty

These eggs are a cool idea, but not very tasty. The texture is 'okay', a bit chewy, but the flavor is just not good. They taste musty and that's about all. I can't imagine what they would go with or why anyone would want that flavor.

Interesting

I am not a caviar expert and mainly only have it at the holidays. I odered this and 7 other 1 oz jars from Caviar Star to give many a try and pick our favorites. Our snail caviar looked beuatiful and unfortunately quite bland. If you are ordering many caviars getting this would be an interesting contrast visually. It would be quite stunning to mix it with a low cost black caviar for a salt and pepper look. As always Caviar Star's shipping and service is the best.
