How We Got Here

The Caviar Star story is a good one. Founded in Portland, Maine, in the late 1980s by husband-and-wife divers Dana and Denise Leavitt, Great Atlantic began as a true hands-on seafood operation—one built on early mornings, cold waters, and an uncompromising respect for the ocean. The Leavitts harvested scallops and urchins themselves, selling their catch directly on the Portland docks. What started as a modest coastal venture quickly expanded into a global export business, especially throughout Japan, and eventually evolved into Great Atlantic Trading Inc. as their passion for caviar and exceptional roes took center stage.
